As part of their Skills lab activity, Grade 12 students investigated how acidic conditions affect protein digestion in the stomach.
Students mimicked this by observing how egg whites react to gastric enzymes (pepsin and hydrochloric acid). A litmus test was performed as well to check for the presence of acid.
This activity is one of many hands-on experiments which allow students to hone their skills in Interpreting Data, Controlling Variables and Drawing Conclusions.
