PARENT FORMATION PROGRAM

One of the gems of a Woodrose education is the partnership between the school and the home. As parents have the primary task of forming their children in character, the school embarks on initiatives that ensure that they are never alone in their journey.

Woodrose offers a developmentally appropriate Parent Formation Program across all levels. It is designed to provide parents the knowledge and tools that they need as they accompany their daughter throughout the various stages of her holistic development. A crucial part of the Program’s objective is to create a Woodrose community characterized by an atmosphere of care, collaboration, mutual trust and open communication.

Woodrose conducts Parenting Courses within the school year. These are offered to parents who are at the threshold of important milestones in the life of their child, namely, starting in the big school and the stages of preteens and adolescence. Here are the course descriptions that use the case-study method:

New Parents Education Program (NPEP) is designed for all new parents in the PAREF System. The objective of NPEP is to lay the foundation for an effective partnership between both parents and the school towards the integral development of their children. The course topics include Deliberate Parenting; Dignity of the Person; Home-School Collaboration; Marital Relationship; and Family Visioning.

Middle Childhood Course (MCC) is designed for parents with children between 8-12 years old. The objective of MCC is to help parents understand better and relate proactively to the developmental needs of their pre-teen. The course topics include The Golden Years of Childhood; Getting to Know a Child; Training the Will; Mutual Understanding in Marriage; and Educating for Love.

Parenting Teens Course (PTC) is designed for parents of young adolescents. As children enter this phase of crisis and conflict, the values earlier transmitted by the family may begin to be questioned, and parents may need to prepare to shift gears and find new ways of understanding their daughter. At this stage, learning how to communicate more effectively is most crucial. The course topics include Crisis and Challenges of Adolescence; Discovering Adolescent Value; Sexual Awakening: Effervescence and Self-Control; Self-Esteem and Personal Style; and Authority: Models That Go Against the Grain.

Annual school events also promote and strengthen family relationships such as father and daughtermother and daughter; and family day. For these activities, Woodrose invites highly qualified and esteemed speakers to lend credence to the discussions and get togethers. All these add to achieving that warm and welcoming atmosphere that is characteristic of the Woodrose culture.

Lastly, the school also offers various means of spiritual formation for mothers and fathers. These include Holy Mass, Confession, Monthly Recollection, Annual Retreat, Spiritual Direction, and Basic Christian Doctrine classes.
