Club Launching

by Ashley de Castro, Grade 11

The Woodrose Student Council held the high school club launching for this school year on August 10, 2017. Club Launching is an annual event that provides the students an opportunity to learn more about the different clubs, organizations, and varsities – also known as COVs – that have been started and directed by Woodrose students themselves. Interactive booths for each club, organization, and varsity were scattered around the gym, allowing students to roam around freely and get to know these extra-curricular offerings.

Clubs, organizations, and varsities play a very important role in a student’s life, which is why the Woodrose Student Council and the COV Heads put an incredible amount of effort in planning this event. Although each COV may a have different undertaking, they all lead to the holistic development of students. The projects, field trips, community visits, tournaments, and hands-on experiences aid in acquiring more skills and virtues that cannot truly be learned in a classroom. They also help students hone their talents, discover their passions and ambitions, and grow in self-knowledge.

Improved awareness of the different extra-curricular offerings and the advantages of joining COVs led to a greater number of students who eagerly signed up. All the COV Heads are extremely ecstatic, looking forward to what the new school year will bring for these clubs, organizations, and varsities. Kudos to the Woodrose Student Council for planning this successful event!
