A Social Media Responsibility Symposium was held on March 15, 2018 as part of the annual Academic Week activities of Senior High School. The guest speakers were Dr. Francine Calero-Racho, a Woodrose alumna and current Vice Dean of the School of Communication at the University of Asia and the Pacific; and Mrs. Ma. Celeste Cuadrante-Tanjuatco, a marketing consultant and faculty member of the School of Communication at the University of Asia and the Pacific.
Offering advice on the use of social media, they zeroed in on the powerful effects of social media, noting that a lot of the youth at present have made it a huge part of their everyday life. Issues such as the ever-relevant topic of fake news were touched on, and so were other interesting facts such as the evolution of social media itself. Social media was shown to have both a good side and a negative side; students must, as the speakers emphasized, have the ability to navigate through the not-so-black-and-white world of social media.
