SHS Academic Week 2019

By Karmella Tapia

The Senior High School Department held its 2nd Annual SHS Academic Week last March 5-8, 2019, revolving around the theme of 21st Century Learners’ Experiences: Trends, Innovations, and Community. It began with the opening of an exhibit of SHS inter-subject projects at the Exhibit Hall. Throughout the week, Grades 11 and 12 students eagerly participated in a wide variety of intellectually-stimulating activities such as the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, a Talk on the Power of Communication, and the “Impossible” Quiz Bee.

Senior High School students also had the opportunity to showcase their mastery of concepts learned from their different modules throughout the year to impressed teachers and peers. This involved delivering media-themed anti-bullying talks to fifth and sixth graders entitled Be an Upstander; doing their Oral Defense of City Ordinance-based Research Projects; hosting a Research Game Room, complete with educational, original game designs; and holding an Entrep Fair wherein they experienced how to start a small business from product development to production to marketing.

By the end of the Academic Week, the girls felt inspired to rediscover the joys of learning and energized to finish the last few months of the school year on a high note.
