The PRIMED Institute was an opportunity for school leaders to reimagine education through the lens of character formation. Through in-depth discussions, hands-on workshops, and reflective exercises, participants explored how to create school cultures that foster ethical leadership, integrity, and personal growth.
At the core of the program was the PRIMED model, developed by Professor Marvin W. Berkowitz, a key expert in character education. The model served as a framework to introduce attendees to proven strategies for cultural transformation. Participants were encouraged to move beyond surface-level character education initiatives and instead embed character development deeply into their school communities.
Throughout the program, participants delved into key topics, including:
- Moral, Civic, Intellectual, and Performance Character – Understanding the core dimensions of character development.
- School Culture and Climate – Exploring ways to build environments that promote ethical decision-making, collaboration, and student empowerment.
- Servant Leadership and Integrity – Moving from authority-driven leadership to trust-based leadership that models character.
- Empowering Students and Educators – Equipping leaders with tools to foster self-motivation, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making among students.
Beyond lectures and discussions, participants engaged in experiential learning activities, team-building exercises, and practical applications of character education strategies. They were encouraged to reflect on their own leadership practices and to develop action points for implementing character education in their schools.
The training reinforced the idea that education is not just about academic achievement—it is about shaping individuals who are kind, responsible, and committed to the common good. By focusing on intrinsic motivation, meaningful relationships, and moral courage, the PRIMED Institute Character Education Leadership Training inspired participants to lead with purpose and integrity.
As the program concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of mission and concrete strategies to integrate character education into their schools. Their journey did not end with the training—it marked the beginning of a movement to transform education in the Philippines and beyond.
