The school was filled with excitement on October 12 as Intramurals 2018 officially opened. This is the season in school when team spirit, camaraderie, and sportsmanship grow…vast talents and creativity of students are displayed…leadership and teamwork are developed.
We share here excerpts of the speech delivered by Dr. Rama, our Executive Director:
Intramurals doesn’t mean staying away from learning. Do you know that Intramurals is a subject? Can you guess what it is called? It is a subject called LIFE. It is the only subject in Woodrose that doesn’t appear in your report card. Yet, we put so much importance to it because the lessons you learn here are not only applied while you are in school, but for the rest of your life.
During these days, your classrooms are the gym, the quadrangle, the lobby, the promenade, the covered parking, and the field – where I see you having serious team meetings, practicing your cheers, giving pep talks, teaching the little ones how to throw or catch a ball, and so much more!
Intramurals is a class in helping others and giving oneself in order to achieve a goal. It is a class on toughness and learning how to put up with the heat and all the body pains you may feel. It is a class on working alongside others with different temperaments and wide age range from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
Today, after the games, some will win and some will lose. I hope to see you practice the lesson learned in class on how to win with humility and how to accept defeat graciously, without complaining and without blaming others.
If you learn these lessons well, then you will come out of this experience a much better person and the whole effort of organizing the intramurals will be all worthwhile.
Enjoy these classes and may the best team win!
