A Korean national and former Woodrose parent, Mrs. Lee (also known as Soo-Kyung Kim), was recently featured on the website of EBS news (Korea Education and Broadcasting Corporation). In an interview posted on May 31, 2021 in the global report section of the online news, Mrs. Lee shared the benefits of the Mentoring System in PAREF Woodrose School.
Prior to her move back to Korea, Mrs. Lee was an active parent in Woodrose. She helped take care of our new Korean parents to adapt to the school system. She also served as a translator and eventually trained as a mentor.
According to her, mentoring is “the best tool to realize education through cooperation between home and school.” She also added, “I think the mentor system is necessary for two reasons.
First, the mentor plays an active role in the communication between the school and the parents. To truly understand what the child wants, wants to do, and to find his/her potential, teachers need help from the parents and vice versa. It is the mentor who acts as the bridge between them.
Second, children desperately need mentors. They need someone who will sincerely listen to their stories, become their friend, find their potential, and support them until they achieve their goals.”
