Grade 8 Mother-Daughter Day

At the GRADE 8 MOTHER-DAUGHTER ACTIVTY held on September 15, 2017, the topic of “Understanding Real Love” was tackled.

As young teenagers, Grade 8 students begin experiencing attraction to the opposite gender. At this stage, parents often wonder how to best prepare their children for real love. Mrs. Lalaine Lucas-Gogna, a Woodrose parent involved in the Youth Ministry in several Parishes and founder of the Woman of Worth Retreats, generously shared her learnings from years of experience. She outlined a guide for moms:

  • KNOW YOURSELF. It is only after a person learns to love and value herself for her inner qualities, will she be able to love and value the inner qualities of another person.
  • GROW IN HER WOMANLY CHARACTER. A person must believe in her worth.
  • GROW IN GOD. Our daughters must know that there is Someone who fashioned her, thought of every bit of her, and truly loves her unconditionally.

In a separate venue, Isha de Vera-Capulong (Woodrose alumna from Class of 2008) and her husband Lance, held an informal get together with the Grade 8 girls. Armed with what they’ve learned from the “I am Strong Program” of the University of Asia and the Pacific, the young married couple engaged the students in an open discussion as to how to differentiate love from infatuation.

After the separate talks, mothers and daughters came together to cap the event with a bonding activity.
