Face Shields for Frontliners

By Mika Sarile

A production line, in the Sarile household, for making face shields for frontliners

During this quarantine, my family and I really wanted to help the frontliners because they are doing so much for the whole country. Since we couldn’t go out to visit the hospitals, we looked for something we could do for them from our house instead. So, when the opportunity came to make face shields for the frontliners, my family didn’t hesitate to say yes. In order to get the materials needed for the face shields, my parents had to pick it up, and once we finished with our shields, they would bring it back to the same place where they got the materials. The experience was truly a happy one and we would like to say that that was the highlight of this whole quarantine so far. Since there were several steps to make the face shield, each family member had their own role. It was like our own little factory. At some point, it also took a lot of time because the measurements had to be exact, and we wanted to make sure that the mask was well-made and comfortable. Despite this, we really enjoyed it because we were able to spend time with each other and help the frontliners at the same time, even if we were stuck at home. Because of the pandemic and of the quarantine, many people seem to forget hope and optimism. But we believe that times like these are those times where hope and happiness are needed the most. It doesn’t even have to be big actions, even the smallest actions count. My family and I believe that by doing these face shields, we are also spreading our hope, love, strength and support to all of the frontliners who need it the most. It was truly a memorable experience and we are extremely grateful for the people who started this project. We really hope to do more projects like these in the future, and for all of us to help the frontliners.
