Woodrose student, Gia Sansaet, has brought honor and pride to our country by winning second place in the 6th Hippo International English Language Competition held in Lido di Jesolo, Italy on May 12-13, 2018.
Of the thirty finalists aged 11-13 (Hippo 1 category), Gia finished top 2, a half-point behind first placer Magdalena Kranjcic of Croatia. Simeona Sterjeva of Macedonia bagged the third place.
Gia is the very first and lone Philippine delegate in the 2018 Hippo finals. From 22,000 participants, she is among the 99 students who qualified for the final round after a series of tests, which included listening, writing, and reading.
In the final round, the participants took writing, reading, listening, and speaking tests, one CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level higher than in the semi-final round.
Hippo English without Borders Competition is organized by Global Hippo Association. Founded in 2012, the organization aims to promote the importance of English language knowledge and bring together children and teachers from different countries. It is now on its sixth year while its local counterpart, Hippo Philippines, has just started this year.
