Last April 14, 2018, members of the Students’ Coalition for Animal Care (SCAC), a newly founded Senior High School organization, visited the shelter of the Laguna Pit Bulls, which is one of the many projects of CARA Welfare Philippines. The shelter is home to several pit bulls rescued during a raid conducted on a dog fighting syndicate in 2012. Since the raid, CARA Welfare has assumed guardianship of over 80 pit bulls, relying completely on donations to care for, rehabilitate, and hopefully re-home the rescued dogs.
Aside from visiting the shelter to drop off a donation of dog food, the students helped to socialize the dogs by walking them and playing with them. By the end of the day, the students confirmed that the pit bulls had completely stolen their hearts. They were amazed at how gentle, friendly, and trusting the pit bulls were despite all the cruelty and abuse that the dogs had suffered at the hands of the syndicate members. Truly, the SCAC visit to the Laguna Pit Bulls taught the girls how a little compassion can make a world of difference.
