Viva La Familia

On January 20, 2018, the school community once again came together for one of the most awaited events of the school year – Family Day. Congratulations to the Red Conquerors for being the over-all winner this year; and to the Blue Phoenixes, Green Griffins, and Gold Lions for putting up a strong fight.

We share with you excerpts of the speech delivered by our Executive Director, Dr. Severina M. Villegas, at the Opening Ceremony:

It brings me great joy to see all of you here today, from the newest members of our family, to those who have been here for generations – it truly reflects the theme for this year, which is Viva la Familia!

But what does this mean? Why was this chosen as the theme for this year? Well, in English, Viva la Familia means “Long live the family!” The family is the very reason why Woodrose came to be; the family is the reason why Woodrose celebrates its 40th year this year; and the family is still going to be the reason why Woodrose will continue to flourish in the future. This is not only about the family unit that consists of parents and their children, but also the sense of family that circulates among all members of the school community: students, teachers, parents, staff, auxiliary, mentors. This sense of family is what unites and strengthens us as a school. That is why we truly can proclaim: Viva la Familia!

So today, as you all cheer for your teams, may you always remember what you are all feeling today – the joy, the excitement of being part of a team. It continues to amaze us how such intricate dances, formations, and cheers are made, organized, led, and performed by students. Truly, the only way you could get everyone to work together is by making them work as a team, as a family. And we very much feel that united energy whenever we watch all of you. All of you standing in front of me today, whether you are a captain, a dancer, a props-maker, a mommy, or a member of the pep squad – you are part of that family of Red, Blue, Green, or Gold. More than that, you are part of the Woodrose family that has nurtured and will continue to nurture you as long as she lives.

Viva la Familia!
