Nika led a quiet but inspiring life in Woodrose. One never saw her brooding or sullen nor heard her complaining in spite of being sick. She would sit on the floor with everyone else during group works and walk all the way to Chapel and back to the Grade School building like everyone else in spite of the discomfort of her leg. If her teachers saw her limping and asked if she were ok, she would simply smile and say “I’m fine, Miss.” One would never suspect that she was not well because she readily welcomed anyone who came to speak or be with her. According to her teachers, she loved adobo and sinigang and often went out of her way to check on her sister and to relay her parents’ concerns to her mentor. Nika had a certain calm that surrounded her. She would sit and listen in class with a serenity that inspired one to appreciate the value of life. In her own quiet manner, she taught her classmates and teachers a lesson that pain was not simply something to be endured, but something to be accepted and loved.
