To celebrate International Women’s Day 2024 (IWD2024) last March 8, 2024, Woodrose collaborated with Saint Joseph Girls’ School, Japan for an online event attended by students from both schools. The objective of this special collaboration was to spread awareness about IWD2024 and its theme “Inspire Inclusion,” and to strengthen our linkage with Saint Joseph School.
Leading up to the event, officials and students from Saint Joseph School and Woodrose held Zoom meetings, crafted a survey on gender roles and gender equality and administered it to students of both schools, interpreted and discussed the survey responses, and coordinated the final schedule and logistical arrangements. Woodrose also committed to join Saint Joseph School in taking photos of students doing the “Inspire Inclusion” pose and supporting the Purple Ribbon Movement by encouraging our students to wear a purple ribbon during the week of March 4-8.
During the event held via Zoom on March 8, warm welcomes were delivered by Dr. Cheye dela Fuente, IBED Principal, and Mr. Yasuhiro Harada, Principal of Saint Joseph School. The students of Saint Joseph School then made presentations about the Purple Ribbon Movement and Women Role Models. This was followed by a presentation of the survey responses by students from both schools. Presenting on behalf of Woodrose were Grade 10 students Winnie Chen and Ari del Rosario. The occasion was happily documented with a group selfie, with students doing the “Inspire Inclusion” pose.
We are grateful to Mr. Anthony Hollinghurst and the Saint Joseph School community for initiating this collaboration, and to the ExplorASIAn Club, the Woodrose Exchange Program, and the Woodrose Student Council for their involvement.
