Students Win Ateneo Chemistry Olympiad

Congratulations to our high school students, CATEY CARLOS, JULIANA FRANCO, and ELIZA GREGORIO, who participated in the Ateneo Chemistry Olympiad (AChO) last April 1 and emerged as WINNERS in the Category B Division. We also acknowledge Ms. May Ramallosa, Grade 10 Science Teacher, for mentoring the girls throughout the competition.

The team’s winning idea was for a “Paper-thin Plumeria Rubia Feminine Wash” which could possibly replace plastic bottled products. This was in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Health and Well-Being assigned by the organizers. Calachuci extract was used as an additive that could enhance the properties of their sustainable product. Luckily, these flowers were bountiful on campus. In the qualifying round, the team was tasked to prepare a project proposal discussing the prospective product to be developed. When they advanced to the final round, they proceeded with product development and testing in the science lab. They were then tasked to present and defend their prototypes and the implications to chemistry and sustainable development to the technical committee.

Keep up the good work, girls!
