On May 13, 2022, high school students gathered in Woodrose for a face-to-face year-end student assembly! It’s been a while since the student body came together in the gym, and it certainly brought some nostalgic memories. It was also great to see our batchmates and friends one last time before we all went on summer break.
It began with opening remarks from the JHS Principal Mrs. dela Fuente and SHS Principal Mrs. Adajar, both of whom acknowledged the students’ achievements and hard work this past year and congratulated all of us for finishing the school year strong.
Then, the Woodrose Student Council recognized those who helped make this school year fruitful and enjoyable – the student leaders (Class Officers, Council Committee heads, and COV heads), our teachers and mentors, and the school staff. There was the Bequeathal Ceremony, where the Grade 12 graduating batch symbolically passed on responsibilities, duties, and virtues to the Grade 11 as the incoming seniors. In the Turnover Ceremony, the Team Captains had the Passing of Caps to the Co-Captains, which made us all a little emotional. Then, we had the Signing Off of the outgoing student council and the Oath-Taking of the newly elected student council! The closing speech was given by outgoing WSC President, Carmela Dioko, who said “We believe that there remains light in the midst of darkness, and we, as the youth of our country, will only work harder to ensure a future without fear, injustice, and malice.” It was a very timely and uplifting message for all of us, in light of the recent national elections. Her speech was followed by the recitation of our pledge for the Philippines as Filipino youth. The pledge was written as a poem entitled “Mulat” by Grade 11 student, Fides Esteban. The assembly ended with a surprise video that gave tribute to our lovely graduating seniors, who we will miss very much!
What a way to wrap up the school year! It’s been a crazy year, and I know everyone is excited about summer, so stay safe, stay hydrated, and until next school year, see you, Woodrose!
Below is the student pledge, Mulat, written by Fides Esteban:
Ang aking mga mata,
sila’y puno ng pag asa.
Naidilat, namulat,
hangarin ay tapat.
Sa katotohanan lamang
tumitingi’ng walang harang.
Kinabukasan ng bayang minamahal,
itinataas sa’yo, Poong Maykapal.
Aking ipinapangako
na kailanma’y hindi susuko.
Ako ay matapang, ako ay mabuti.
Pagmamahal at katataga’y ‘di isasantabi.
Ang loob ko ay titibayan,
‘pagkat may liwanag sa kadiliman.
Ang puso ko’y hindi mapipigil
Sa manlulupig, ‘di ka pasisiil.
Ipinagmamalaki ko,
taos puso’t taas noo,
